Today a search by the SAPS was conducted. The school nor SAPS presented a legally signed warrant to search. My son's school bag was subject to a search without his consent and they removed his personal vape & oil stating he could retrieve from the principal which was denied as they said "it's a banned substance". According to the school rules only the word tobacco is mentioned. He is 19 yrs old, he was further subject to a drug test which was negative, still no legal warrant was shown or presented. There were no qualified medical personnel in attendance. The school did not inform at any stage this had happened nor after leaving a message for the Deputy Principal to call me back, which he did not do I proceeded to the school to engage them. The Vape cost my son R 1 100,00 plus another R 400,00 for the oil. Vaping is not tobacco, nor an illegal substance. Further he was denied his right to contact me. The actions of the Principal & Deputy Principal and SAPS is in contravention of the constitution of the RSA. Their lack duty to contact and inform parents of enrolled students is unacceptable.
